simbad teams up with south african vocalist brian temba, whose previous release together come join in dropped on hi:rise back in 2011. in it’s original form take my hand is a sublime, forward-looking deep and soulful house track based around a filtering symphonic string loop, low-slung groove and heart-felt vocal. simbad has created a very london-centric vibe but with a french touch and detroit sensibilities, drawing from house heroes such as parrish and bradock, joining the dots and creating a fresh masterpiece in the process. next up we have jimpster on the remix, picking up the bpm’s slightly and loading up on his trademark deep stabs, sub-bass and spacious fx adding just enough dance-floor bump whilst leaving the vocal placed firmly at the core. on the flip side we have two smbd zulu edits which replace the more spartan groove of the original with some driving afro percussion. the first version keeps the vocal intact, the second version goes balls deep into dub territory, closing out this amazing release with an instrumental pushing the strings and hypnotic groove front and centre

when you think about italian crime movies, one of the first names to get to your mind is probably franco micalizzi, the maestro behind terrific and unforgettable soundtracks like napoli violenta and italia a mano armata. through all is carrier, nonetheless, there’s room also for some less known, but still mentionable works. one of them is hold up, made up of dizzying escapes, funky breakbeat and some less frantic episode.

lithuanian based label sodai started its journey in 2016, making it a label still in it’s infancy but making a big impression. owned by artist gardens of god, who started the label to create his own ‘no limits’ plat-form for his experimental sounds and projects. while at the same time a platform to give other artists the chance to also have freedom with art and music. with releases from raxon, few nolder and third son under their belt, the label shows no sign of slowing down, next in line is italian producer alex schaufel (suara, diynamic) who is welcomed to the label with a his heavy hitting four track ep entitled ‘roots’.

although ultimately a comedy act, the cuban brothers are simultaneously serious musicians who have played with prince, been on the road with james brown and supported fatboy slim, chuck berry and de la soul to name but a few. 2018 will see them perform with a 12-piece band and a rotating roll-call of special guests on board to help them turn 20, including the average white band’s hamish stuart and the jungle brothers’ baby bam. ‘la familia’, released 24th august via sunday best, features a brand new cubans track, ‘i hate hate’, alongside such classics by roy ayers, bill withers, erykah badu, a tribe called quest, children of zeus, d’angelo and more. the cuban brothers clearly have an impeccable taste in music.

camelphat and yousef have known each other for many years. much alike one another they ve earnt their stripes, contributing to the dance music industry in a plethora of ways, dj ing, running events, running clubs. naturally, this friendship, teamed with camelphat s admiration and understanding of circus recordings, led to the exchanging of demos that finally manifested in this release. opening track the solution is nothing short of relentless. having had numerous plays out, the track has been dubbed check-mate on the dancefloor . with second track, dmt , yousef was immediately hooked on the way it pushed the boundaries of camelphat s vision further than ever before. indeed, a fully twisted techno work out that sees heavy kicks and driving bass build, amid looping sirens, to not one but two huge crescendos. this ep showcases club music with the heftiest of parameters. undoubtedly, another enormous ep for camelphat and a fitting following to the equally enormous say something by nasser baker already out on circus recordings

marc & oveous bring the classic bruk flavours to atjazz’s label with their new e.p. ‘on again’. the original harks back to the old co-op nights with a tough bass synth and oveous’ soul laden vocals, tied together behind a punchy, syncopated broken beat rhythm. dress to sweat, this one will make the bodies move. first up on the flip side the ‘4x4 dub’ switches the rhythm to a straight up 4x4 house beat, but that subby synth carries through the broken beat touch. the original mixes’ vocals are dropped in favour of one of oveous’ short spoken word monologues before he steps back to let the music do the magic. the ‘dubstramental’ gives you one final interpretation utilising the same dubbed out template as the b1, but reverting back to the original broken beat pattern to give you three different flavours to throw down with.

kicking off the first of two tracks by sondrio night train is smooth and subtle, this melodic low slung groover is made for those warm summer days. the deep tones give the low end just enough attitude to get those boots knocking. give it like is punchy and upbeat, sondrio gives you a dance floor weapon that ll have the punters up in arms. his signature low end notes drive this record with vocal stabs that will fit in any set. first up on b side ant larock drops another groovy house number better think with a mesmerising vocal laid on top of nothing but luscious chords. summer needs records like this, it s what memories are made of. ant also delivers pleasure that feels like a good dj tool perfect to break up those disco vocals with choppy chords, swinging drums and a cheeky vocal to match. house music at its finest.

serbia s disco fruit crew continue to bring the heat with their razor sharp edits and productions mining the golden era of funk-fuelled part music. on this occasion dr packer and loshmi have joined forces for two certified bangers that rank highly on the boogie scale. -in case of emergency- is a tidy reworking of gayle adams -emergency- that keeps the groove heavy but stretches the jam out for extended dancefloor pleasure. on the flip, it s british funk outfit delegation that get the disco fruit treatment, winding up with the stretched out delights of -house in downtown,- guaranteed to get any soiree worth its salt shaking down to the ground.

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

shot at dawn is a scintillating return for a band who have been collectively quiet (but individually busy) for a few years, and (once again) sounds like the music of tomorrow. lyricist leon mayes wills the real revolution to come, morris’s uneasy keys and driving, bittersweet production embodies the uk s collective anxiety/apathy coupled with an impending sense of doom, as we all obediently troop off the cliff like lemmings, while vocalist michelle manetti s melancholy delivery is the perfect foil both, recalling tracey thorn at her best.

korpus 9 records kicks off with a brand new ep from dubspeeka, featuring four tracks of high impact and atmospheric techno. korpus 9 records is a brand new techno label from russia managed by kwazalski. the main aim of the label is to release fresh and innovative material, not only digitally, but also on vinyl. all the imagery and influences of the label come from an abandoned research station that is deep underwater, where unusual events are happening around it on a constant basis. charged with the first release is shadowy bristolian producer dubspeeka, who has put out his music on drumcode, senso sounds and get physical, runs skeleton recordings and has a fierce techno sound. the opener here is garrison, a driving number with heavy drums and a warm but edgy mood. garrison 2 is more spaced out, with celestial pads baring a feeling of suspense above the firmly rooted drums. garrison 3 then has lumpy drums that bob up and down, as acid lines, water sounds and metallic hits all add atmosphere to the cavernous groove. last of all, garrison 4 is an eerie dub techno track with real drive but also plenty of thoughtful emotions. it closes out a brilliant first ep on this exciting new label.

hijacked records detroit is feeling inspired after hearing new work from one of our favourite allies in techno, jules wells. we felt it was our duty to deliver this to the people, three new productions from jules with a guest remix from our own antwon faulkner. please enjoy - -silent orchestra.- the title track from jules really set the bar for this release. jules really understands story telling with music and this track transports you to a time in techno that was both hopeful and beautifully heart breaking. a persistent chord progression is wrapped in celestial synth harmonies filing up the space all around you and reaching in. that classic clap is underpinned with a touch of acid, creating an edge. at the 4:33 mark an enchanting and haunting sign wave tells a melodic tragedy. strings come in delicately but wash over you completely. this track is both stunning and devastating.

the poverty is violence stable are firmly established now as an essential conductor for rabid, rowdy and downright rasping mechanics from subterranean operators of all shapes and sizes. anonymous but reportedly veteran dutch producer xxx previously appeared on the label in 2016 with the wild noorder scannen 12-, and now returns with a bludgeoning new release. there s a consistent metal grind to the percussion on westzaan doelen, while the synth tones in between tend towards the jagged and abrasive, there s space and poise in the arrangement to lift this out of knuckleheaded noise. -don t go after her- reverberates with clamouring intensity while the beefy chassis of -just the two of you- shimmers under an acidic glaze - this is full-tilt deviant music executed with finesse to match the grime.

by now, the story of how jlin went from working in a steel factory in gary, indiana to being one of the most widely appreciated electronic musicians is well known. “black origami” was one of the most lauded albums last year. seriously prolific and seriously hard-working, she has toured constantly since its may 2017 release and despite being involved in a wide range of projects, still manages to find a balance and time to “do some personal healing and growing.”
here we are over a year later with “autobiography,” the score for her collaboration with renowned british choreographer wayne mcgregor (a collaboration arranged by krakow’s unsound). this isn’t technically her third album (that’s due to arrive in 2019 or 2020), but the soundtrack stands up on its own with all the emotional peaks and troughs of a well-sequenced lp.

nadanna is extremely proud and excited to present tobias bernstrup’s new album “technophobic”. bernstrup who works both as a visual artist and musician has been touring worldwide since the late 1990s and positioned himself as one of the leading re-inventors of italo disco with his unique mix of italo, synthpop and gothic noir. he has created his own unmistakable stage persona wearing androgynous outfits in shiny latex and heavy make-up. tobias has collaborated with seminal artists such as trans-x, apoptygma berzerk, martial canterel, xeno & oaklander, lebanon hanover, and she past away. “technophobic” contains 10 smashing tracks including the recent single “utopia”, and “metropolis of tomorrow” featuring french dark synth wave artist hante. combining influences from classic synthpop, minimal wave, dark wave in a retro futuristic manner tobias bernstrup has created an album reminiscent of the 80s but in a contemporary context of sound landscape.

ouch from a distance is the new label of former ostgut ton manager nick ho¨ppner. it s first release by desert sound colony has been very well received – opal sunn are a well seasoned hardware only live act very much in control of their repertoire, but also capable of captivating improvisations – opal sunn have got a recognizable sound driven by smart, often arpeggiated synth lines, on point drums and textures

the remarkable second album, “indigo”, from singer and pianist kandace springs is a 13-track lp of originals and choice covers that showcases the full breadth of kandace’s artistry from smoldering r&b (“piece of me”) to gorgeous jazz ballads (“unsophisticated” featuring roy hargrove) to the pop songcraft of “breakdown” and “don’t need the real thing,” the album’s lead single which is out today. all but two tracks are produced by drummer/producer karriem riggins (common, erykah badu) with additional production by jamie hartman (rag n bone man), jimmy hogarth (amy winehouse, corinne bailey rae), jimmy harry (madonna, p!nk) and evan rogers and carl sturken (rihanna).

till today fumio itabashi is a vital part of the japanese jazz culture as a live performer and film score composer. those who want to see how he makes love with his piano should check the world wide web for the french documentary jazzed out, that captured his unique way of playing in one episode. but as music is always firstly for the ears, and not for the eyes, this little letter in-front of you would rather like to recommend to play the “watarase” recordings loud to get hooked by the highly infectious piano gems that have been recorded at nippon columbia 1st studio in tokyo on 12th and 13th of octo-ber 1981. they will haunt you. they will come for good. and they will force you to be a good friend with the repeat button – whatever medium you chose to surrender to the piano jazz music of fumio itabashi.

as always, the return of ruede hagelstein is inevitable and with each return he ups the ante tenfold showcasing his ever growing prowess behind the studio door. it seems as if, with each ruede ep, the amount of elements utilized shrinks while at the same time the sound grows in power and dominance and that could not be better exemplified than here. consisting of two originals and a remix from the one and only martin buttrich, the ep is a gross display of well thought out, mature dance floor jewels. opening the short player is hagelsteins ‘dematerialize feat. justin evans where a sinister yet soothing vocal sets the tone for the entire track, laying the groundwork for a gorgeous bass drum and shimmers of distant percussion carry us into celestial spaces. ‘forward vision is up next and follows suit by relying on a brooding minimal groove to drive the shimmers of glistening atmospherics and sparkling sonics optimal for dizzy and delirious club moments. last but certainly not least we turn to the legend who is martin buttrich to twist the original ‘dematerialize feat. justin evan into a more straightforward composition with his signature stylings opening the doors of accessibility to a wider demographic of disc jockeys resulting in a track that stretches the playability to a wide range of disc jockeys

livity sound continues to be one of the most innovative labels of its era with another essential release, this time in the form of a debut long player from forest drive west. this extended 2 x 12” and digital release, apparitions lands in october 2018 and is a fascinating further development of the producer s intricate fusions of techno, dub and jungle. * the acclaimed uk artist has released two eps on the label before now, as well as on its sister label dnuos ytivil and the likes of hidden hawaii, appian sound, and london drum & bass outlet rupture. little is known about the london based producer but in just a couple of years he has established his own unique blend of complex rhythms and tactile sound design, distilling a rich history of uk musical influences into fresh new forms. * this record continues in that tradition with a mix of sparse rhythm tracks that contrast heavy weight drum programming with rich and deft sound design. from menacing and mysterious, to cinematic and hypnotic, it makes for a compelling and immersive experience. apparitions is a landmark release for one of the uk s most exciting new producers.

after many years of steady work bristol-based artist joefarr created a well-respected profile on his own, he is now joining the label showing a side of his works that many never saw probably, and others always knew but never saw on a record. development always takes time, and time is nothing when the art comes out in his true form. this is “dedicate” - a very important record that represents something deeper than a peace of wax, label boss emmanuel took the big responsibility to remix the title track and make his own view of joefarr’s dedication.

politics of dancing continue to expand their horizons with another round of collaborative wares on their p.o.d cross sublabel. once again they ve invited big hitters who slip perfectly into the minimal house mindset the parisian label has been locked in since 2013, leading with cab drivers on the a side. the deep-diving german mainstays gel with the pod crew in a tightly clipped but utterly funked up roller, sitting in contrast to the more open, tripped out synth flourishes sebo k brings to the table on side b. with each track distinctive but also compatible, there s every chance you ll be compelled to play both out at the late night / early morning shuffled-up jamboree.

va&#776,,,stkransen records are proud to release the debut ep of stockholm s house savants hk. the main project of hampus ribbing and kristoffer banks, hk have garnered attention for their dynamic and unpredictable live sets. having spent five years in the studio engineering their deep and mesmerizing grooves, the duo now surfaces with “a kind of love ep”, featuring three original tracks and a remix from french wunderkind and d.ko head flabaire.
on the a-side, hk begins with the melancholic but captivating “a kind of love”. the duo then goes deeper on the hypnotizing, yet dancefloor-oriented, “hiccup”. on the flipside, flabaire presents a dreamy and jazz-inspired remix of “a kind of love”, after which hk sums up the ep with “angry bird”, a percussion-infused take on the rougher deep house sound.

well, this is different… fourth kind the self titled mini album on omniverse records. it’s hard to pinpoint a genre with records like this, produced by marc mac of 4hero and similar to some of the 4hero output, it defies genre and fits somewhere in-between many. the production is heavily reliant on synthesisers and vintage drum machines in places but is full of real life and organic movements, this is partly down to the signature drums played by luke parkhouse. the only other guest spot is filled by nu jazz funker pascal strauss aka luman child who plays bass guitar on “take me to your sky” which along with “afterglows” are the closest we get to dance tracks, in most parts a 70s fusion feel is present. the short interlude type tracks are just as important and i would go as far as to say vital to telling the story. moogs, arps and solina strings weave patterns throughout, all in all, across the 10 tracks the album is a journey of mood and emotions. 180g pressing.

the burrell connection is somewhat a resident with craigie knowes, he lived in the same flat in glasgow with label boss max when he started the label in 2015, he featured on the first release, he contributed to second fundraiser album, hes also played half of the parties at their glasgow home, la cheetah club, and travelled with the craigie knowes dj team to wow crowds around europe. but enough of the history, this is now - the burrell connections debut ep with the imprint, hyper/orbit. hyperactive techno and breaks blended together, emotive pads, 808 basslines and that ever-creative and homage-paying sampling ability that the burrell connections noble followers have come to love. its scotlands poster-boy at his finest. diversity is the key to longevity.

first up on remix duties is one of house music’s most intriguing artists. adesse versions has a back catalogue of highly sought-after records, and he’s treated this remix with utmost respect, keeping the track’s essence and identity, but adding a new layer of raw warmth and subliminal melody. next up, house legend dj spen has stepped up to the plate with his own interpretation. his jazzy, soulful keys have added a layer of polish and musicality to the track, which combine beautifully with paris brightledge’s iconic vocals.

‘you can’ stares directly into the haze and the strobes of the transformative night-out documented throughout gabe gurnsey’s debut lp, ‘physical’. undoubtedly one of the record’s most outright hedonistic moments, ‘you can’ finds gabe cheekily intoning an invitation to dance, get high, or both, assisted by a deeply trippy sonic atmosphere and a seductive, twilight bassline.
in the spirit of classic extended edits, the ‘extended dub’ version unpicks and expands on each of these elements, retaining the solid groove of the original while transforming it into a heady dancefloor tool. a staple of electro for the past two decades, the hacker meanwhile continues his recent hot streak with his remix of ‘you can’. firmly executed with his usual cyber-militancy, his simple but effective reimagining is littered with elasticated synth stabs, urgent oscillations and an audible desire to transform gurnsey himself into a man-machine.

a much in demand reissue of two of nyc born-and-bred, pal joeys, classics from his joint label with reynald deschamps, loop dloop. first up, party time which harnesses that 90s nyc underground house energy with a rawness that was to emanate through many of pal joeys subsequent productions. scalpel in hand, joey expertly crafted this sample laden groover, his trademark stuttering, off-kilter rhythms, loops and fills keeping listeners on their toes throughout, never knowing how the next phrase might unfold. on the flip, raw love utilises a seminal disco classic as its main sample source, looping it in a way only pal joeys mind knows how, adding percussive hits and extra effects to create an innovative, animated and exhilaratingly rhythmic dancefloor bomb. both tracks are perfect examples of the simplicity and seeming effortlessness that pal joey maintains in his productions, adhering to the mantra that less is more but with a resonating rawness that touches deep down in the soul.

we are proud to present the first ever vinyl issue of jon krocker’s debut album ‘monolog’ originally released on cassette in 1983. the 12 instrumental tracks are stark and minimal, at times anxious but overall space orientated and flexible. all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. each copy includes an 8-page newsprint zine featuring ephemera, press clippings, photos and liner notes by jon.

heat in two belgian flavors! check out the zaïrian electronic dance floor banger “nakombe nga” by les choc stars. comes with the dope, largely unheard belgium new beat version on the flip from the teknokrat s. both tracks were originally released in 1989 and this is the first time they appear together on 12-. reissue co-curated with renowned record fiend john gomez. the music on this winning double-sider was written by tony baron and gery françois, two belgian producers that were involved in several musical projects on the new beat scene in the 1980s. they worked under many aliases and recorded the teknokrat’s haunting “what did she say?” at the famous studio madeleine in brussels in 1989. prompted by jean martin from espera records, baron adapted the music into a further two songs to be released that year, virginity’s melancholic “the key”, and the surprising but ear catching collaboration with the label’s soukous stars, ben nyamabos les choc stars du zaire. it is still a mystery how the seeds were planted for the one-off pairing that culminated in the electronic soukous bomb “nakombe nga”. what is certain is that it is set to light up dancefloors worldwide.
